Published on : Thursday, February 14, 2013

In the first month of 2013, airberlin increased its capacity utilization rate to 83.1 percent, i.e. an increase of 1.0 percentage points over the previous year. In January 2013, Germany’s second-largest airline company welcomed a total of 1,757,109 flight-guests on board. By eliminating unprofitable routes and optimizing flight schedules, airberlin reduced its available seat kilometers in January in a targeted manner by 9.9 percent to 3,449.5 million.

For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its seat capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK). For the purpose of a yearly comparison, the seat capacity utilization for 2012 was likewise calculated anew.
