airberlin-2There’s a tasty surprise waiting for all visitors travelling with airberlin to this year’s International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in the German capital: airberlin will be serving free curried sausage known as currywurst from the Sansibar restaurant on Sylt as a snack on all German domestic flights to Berlin between 4th and 7th March 2014.

“We have been offering curried sausage for sale on nearly all our medium-haul flights since 2007 and it continues to be the most popular dish on our menu. Traditionally, we invite our guests on flights to Berlin during the ITB visitor days to enjoy a portion of curried sausage. On average we served 20,000 portions in each of the last two years,” says Thomas Ney, Senior Vice President Guest Experience.

Of course, flight guests who are not travelling to the ITB will also be able to enjoy some currywurst. airberlin continues to be the only airline in Germany which offers guests the opportunity to purchase hot meals on board with no need to pre-order, as well as offering free snacks and drinks. A selection of different Sansibar gourmet meals is available on board nearly all airberlin medium-haul flights. An even larger selection of Sansibar gourmet menus can be pre-ordered online at airberlin.com, through the airberlin Service Center on 030/ 3434 3434 (local rates apply) or via a travel agent. In addition to the currywurst, there is also a selection of vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free meals.
