While Airfares Continue To Rise, Allegiant Tickets Still Half The National Average

Allegiant-planeAllegiant, the company known for its low-cost, nonstop jet service, has kept fares low, even as the average cost of a domestic roundtrip ticket continues to rise. The nationwide average airfare climbed to $363.42 not including the $50 the typical traveler pays roundtrip for a single checked bag, the Associated Press reported. The average roundtrip ticket on Allegiant cost just $180.78* – HALF the nationwide average of $363.42.

“The foundation of our business is providing access to affordable travel and stimulating demand for leisure travel through low fares and great deals on vacation products,” said Andrew Levy, Allegiant Travel Co. President and COO. “We are proud to have grown a healthy airline, while keeping our fares well below the national average and expanding our service to 101 communities nationwide, more than any other domestic low-cost carrier. We know our customers appreciate having access to nonstop flights from their local airport and the value that our unique product offers.”

Allegiant continues to grow and offer more nonstop service in more communities. In 2013, Allegiant announced service in 15 new cities and added 39 new routes to its network, at a time when many airlines are consolidating and cutting service.

“Allegiant has created a unique model – high value, low-cost leisure travel, delivered with efficiency. Because of Allegiant, airports across the nation not only have traffic that would not be there otherwise, but consumers have new options for their leisure dollar,” stated Michael Boyd, chairman of Boyd Group International, a respected aviation consulting firm.

Allegiant differs in many ways from other U.S. airlines. The Company is focused on low-cost, nonstop leisure travel, providing customers with low base fares while giving passengers the option to pay for the amenities they want, like luggage, seat assignments and priority boarding, without including the cost of things they don’t need in the price of the ticket.

Allegiant’s innovative business model has allowed it to grow from one plane and one route 15 years ago, to offering access to low-cost, nonstop travel in 101 communities nationwide. Allegiant also offers discounts on vacation packages, including hotels, rental cars and attraction tickets, through its website Allegiant.com.
