Airport seeks views of regional business community to boost growth

Robinhood-AirportRobin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield is launching a regional wide business survey, to obtain feedback on business travel trends in order to gage future route opportunities for travellers within the Sheffield City Region.

The results of the business survey will play a major part in the vision, strategy and business plan for the airport for the next five years.

The airport is working in partnership with RDC Aviation, the regional Chambers of Commerce and the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership to deliver the survey.

This is part of a major programme of research that Doncaster Sheffield Airport has commissioned since The Peel Group’s re-acquisition of the airport earlier this year.

Steve Gill, Managing Director at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “Our primary objectives for the survey are to improve connectivity for businesses within the city region, to help businesses grow and to attract further investment for the Sheffield City Region as a whole.

Ultimately, long term improved connectivity will have a positive impact on both business and tourism in the City Region.

The survey will help the airport define our growth plan for the coming years and allow us to fulfil our potential.

Steve added: “The survey really seeks to understand the key markets for businesses, how they currently travel and the kind of services they want to see in the future.

“We want the survey to provide our current and prospective airlines with a better understanding of businesses across the region.

“Our message to the airlines is clear – that our airport is situated in a real heartland of major businesses. The local business community plays a key role in proving that there is a sustainable market in the Sheffield City Region.

“We are really looking forward to engaging with businesses across the region and hearing their opinions.”

Dan Fell, Deputy Chief Executive of the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, commented: ““The Chambers of Commerce across the City region are delighted to support this research project. Doncaster Sheffield Airport remains one of the biggest opportunities for our regional economy and the local business community is desperate to see the airport grow and thrive.

“Doncaster Sheffield Airport has enormous potential to support international business travel and freight activity whilst, at the same time, supporting tourism and inward investment. Critical to the realisation of those opportunities is understanding what the business customer wants and delivering against those needs.

“The Chambers therefore recognise this research as a vital piece of work and would encourage all businesses in the region to respond as, in the medium term, it will help to ensure growth and success at Doncaster Sheffield Airport which will, in turn, support the growth of the local economy.”

Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Chairman James Newman added:

“I hope that local business people take advantage of this opportunity to help shape the future of air travel in the Sheffield City Region.

“Enhancing connectivity to the rest of the world and maximising the economic opportunities associated with Doncaster Sheffield Airport are an important part of our Growth Plan, which sets out our ambitions to stimulate economic growth and create 70,000 jobs in the Sheffield City Region over the next decade.

“The LEP recognises that Doncaster Sheffield Airport has huge potential for growth and we hope that this research will help the airport to better understand and meet the changing needs of local business people.”

As a thank to everyone who responds to the survey, they will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to Warsaw courtesy of Wizz Air.
