Arriva-Trains-300x180Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) is pleased to announce some important changes to its Winter timetables valid from 11 December 2016 which will result in some service timing and frequency improvements for many of its customers.

In particular there will be an enhanced Sunday service from 8 January 2017 for customers using services between Ystrad Mynach and Cardiff Central with the addition of 5 extra services in each direction throughout the day.

Here is a summary of the most significant changes, however there are some other small changes to departure times of other services and customers are asked to check their specific journey plans before they travel.

The changes include:
Timetable 1 Swansea – Shrewsbury – Cambrian Coast-Chester – Birmingham
The Sunday 9:30 Aberystwyth – Birmingham service will now arrive 7 minutes earlier at Shrewsbury (11:18) due to the relaxation of engineering work on the line.

Timetable 2 South Wales – North Wales – Manchester
The Saturday 10.33 Holyhead – Cardiff Central service will be re-timed earlier between Newport – Cardiff Central to reduce the journey time between Holyhead and Cardiff by 6 minutes.

Timetable 3 West Wales – Swansea-Maesteg-Cardiff-Cheltenham
The Saturday 14.35 Gloucester – Fishguard Harbour service will be re-timed to depart later from Gloucester at 14.42. This will reduce the journey time for this service between Gloucester and Newport by 7 minutes. This service will still maintain a connection to Bristol Temple Meads from Severn Tunnel Junction.

Timetable 5 Valleys and Cardiff local routes (including Ebbw Vale)
From Sunday 8 January 2017, there will be an enhanced Ystrad Mynach to Cardiff Central service resulting in a more frequent Sunday service (mornings and afternoons) between Ystrad Mynach and Cardiff. This will result in significant re-timings of services between Cardiff Central and Penarth where a two hourly service will be retained, but with an additional service as well as an earlier first service from Penarth to Cardiff (9:32).

Platform 8 at Cardiff Central will be open for use from January 2017 for some services towards Penarth, Barry Island and the Vale of Glamorgan.
