Auckland Convention Bureau organises familiarisation tour for CINZ MEETINGS attendees

Auckland-Convention-BureauAuckland Convention Bureau (ACB) helped 100 New Zealand and Australian buyers who are in town for CINZ MEETINGS 2016 this week to unfold the diversity Auckland offers as a business events destination.

The buyers spent the day with the team from ACB – which is part of Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development, an Auckland Council controlled organisation – discovering a range of experiences, venues, dining and accommodation options.

The day culminated in the big reveal of a team building exercise where the group painted canvases that pieced together like a jigsaw to create a giant image of Auckland.

ACB Manager Anna Hayward says the familiarisation tour is an annual feature of the MEETINGS calendar and gives people the chance to experience Auckland first-hand ahead of the two-day show at ASB Showgrounds.

“This provides a fantastic opportunity for the buyers to have an experience away from the tradeshow which showcases just how easy it is for groups to combine both business and pleasure while here in Auckland,” she says.

“Event organisers and Professional Conference Organisers are really spoilt for choice here. Auckland has all the sophistication of being in a city but with a stunning natural playground that’s all within easy reach of the city centre.

“It’s so easy for groups to go from an experience like a progressive style luncheon, to a thrilling jetboat ride or a relaxed cruise on the harbour or a tailored made team building activity. Auckland is a premium business events destination that’s now more accessible and connected than ever before.”

Thirteen Auckland suppliers hosted the guests, who were whisked away by Pavlovich coaches and warmly welcomed to the Auckland War Memorial Museum for a Maori cultural performance. They enjoyed a progressive style lunch at three of the Viaduct Harbour’s restaurants finishing with a themed high tea dessert at the Heritage Hotel.

A team building exercise created by Team Up Events called The Big Picture delivered the biggest surprise of the day.

Each guest painted a piece of jigsaw creating an enormous interconnected multi-canvas artwork reflecting Auckland’s tourism destinations. Masterpieces of Waiheke Island, Sky Tower and the Auckland Harbour Bridge were just some of the artistic highlights.

One of the hosted buyers, Julia Whitney from The Conference Room says: “It was an incredible day. We covered all aspects of Auckland, from venues, delicious new dining options and experiences. Every time I come here there’s always something new and innovative to see.”

Auckland is the host city for CINZ MEETINGS 2016. Auckland Convention Bureau ran a one-day familiarisation tour for hosted buyers and media on 14 June, showcasing the city’s diverse range of venues, attractions and service providers.
