Suvarnabhumi AirportThere have been talks of providing appropriate transportation solution for the Suvarnabhumi Airport’s inter-terminal rail system. Doppelmayr Cable Car, the Austrian based leading makers of cable cars and gondolas has expressed interest in being a keen supplier for the inter-terminal rail system.

Since discussions on the expansion of the railway connection has been continuing for a long time, the company has expressed interest to provide the right solution, felt chief executive Markus Schrentewein.

With the growing economy airports will have to support the movement of people and the group with its cable-propelled automated people mover (APM) is ideal for handling passenger traffic.

Pulled by cable, this train will be self propelled with an onboard motor. Using simple technology this cable propelled APM will reduce operations and maintain costs. Not much initial investment is required for this system.

The car will not require onboard motor, and only the ventilation system requires maintenance.

Technical specifications are yet to be received by the company for the project but an estimated 1 billion baht can be saved from the offer price. Suvarnabhumi rail expansion would be the first cable propelled project in Asia. The company is looking for opportunities for adding more to the transport system in other regions of Asia.

Their latest installation has been made in the international airport at Doha. Doppelmayr has supplied gondolas for the Hat Yai cable car in Songkhla province, Thailand.
