The domestic destinations outweigh the international tourist destinations when it comes to Brazilians preference for travelling, reveals a survey. Brazilians planning to travel by July this year are opting for local tourist destinations. This was found by a Survey of Consumer- Intent Travel, Tourism Ministry conducted in January 2013 amongst two thousand residents of seven capitals in Brazil.

In the itinerary of those who plan to travel, 68.7% identified domestic cities as destination. Other 23.3% said they would visit other countries. Air travel was chosen as the means of transport by 53%, followed by car, with 26.8%.

The survey, conducted by Fundaçao Getulio Vargas (FGV), also shows that states in the Northeast are still the favorite, with 49% of the votes. Next are the destinations of the Southeast, with 23.3% of preferences, and South America, with 18%.

The survey is conducted monthly by telephone with residents of Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and Sao Paulo.
