cadelTour de France winner Cadel Evans will share stories from his remarkable cycling career at the Santos Tour Down Under’s Legends’ Night Dinner next month.

The BMC Racing Team rider is competing at the Santos Tour Down Under for the first time since 2010 and has his sights set on overall victory.

Evans is the latest rider to join the Legends’ Night Dinner line-up, and will share the stage with British cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy, whose achievements include six Olympic gold medals.

Crowd favourite Jens Voigt – who expects 2014 to be his final professional cycling season – will also be honoured.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said it was exciting to have the three athletes taking part in the Legends’ Night Dinner.

“This event has become a Santos Tour Down Under tradition,” Mr Bignell said.

“It’s a chance for people to discover more about the riders they’ve seen competing around the world – to find out what makes them tick and how they’ve coped with the tough challenges associated with professional cycling.

“Renowned cycling commentators Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen will again interview the riders and we can look forward to insights, surprises and entertainment throughout the evening.”

Mr Bignell said the Legends’ Night Dinner was an important part of the Santos Festival of Cycling.

“The Santos Tour Down Under is much more than simply a bike race, and it’s events like these that reinforce the wide range of ways people can be involved.

“Sir Chris Hoy, Cadel Evans and Jens Voigt have millions of fans around the world and have thrilled us with their performances under immense pressure.

“The Legends’ Night Dinner is our chance to celebrate them and to learn more about how they reached the top.”

The Legends’ Night Dinner will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Saturday 25 January from 7.30pm. It will feature a red-carpet arrival area, three-course meal and drinks.

The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 19-26 January 2014.
