The Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) recorded a growth of 12.9 percent in visitor arrivals from India to Canada from Jan-May 2014 over the same period last year.2014 has seen a number of initiatives to simplify and hasten the Canadian Visa process in India.
CAN+ (Visa programme) was launched in New Delhi by Canada’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Mr. Chris Alexander in July which allows any Indian traveller, who has visited US or Canada at least once in the past ten years, to be able to obtain a Canadian visa without submitting proof of economic solvency.
The applicants will also benefit from faster processing in India, with an average turnaround time of five working days only. Since January 2014, majority of visas issued are long term multiple entry visas. CTC is also focussing on creating more awareness in Tier II cities by conducting workshops and training programs.
“CTC is working hard to strengthen its roots in Tier II cities as well as the metro’s. So far it has been a good year. We have seen a growth each month. We hope to have rising numbers throughout the year,” says Mr. SanJeet, India Representative-Canadian Tourism Commission.Canadian Visa centres are now operational at ten cities. CTC is focussing on partnering with agents across the country to promote Canada as a four season destination in India.
