Hawaii-Tourism-Authority-HTAKilbourn served on the board for the last 10 years in various capacities, as a non-executive director, deputy chairperson and since 2012 as the chairperson.

In that period, SA Tourism has seen record compounded growth of 9.3% in tourist arrivals and tourism became recognized as a key contributor to the country’s GDP.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the SA Tourism board and contribute to my country and an institution which I believe is amongst the best in class and driven by highly committed people at every level in the organisation,” says Kilbourn.

“Recently, however, my personal business interests have demanded much more of my time and by all accounts this is set to intensify.

I am confident that I leave a very resilient organisation with an excellent track record and one which enjoys strong support from our partners at TBCSA, Minister Hanekom and the National Department of Tourism.”

Zweli Mntambo, the deputy chairperson, expressed the board’s gratitude to Kilbourn. “Frank has served SAT with distinction and self-less dedication over the last 10 years,” says Mntambo.

“We will miss his wise counsel, leadership and partnership in driving tourism and leading the organization.

But he is not lost to us as has offered to avail himself in the future should we ever need to tap into his vast experience in tourism and tenure at SA Tourism.”

The Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, has similarly expressed his gratitude to Kilbourn.

“Under his leadership, SA Tourism not only developed into a highly professional and resilient organization, but it also set a proud example through achieving 13 consecutive clean audit reports.

It is comforting to know that he will continue to serve Tourism through his investments in the industry and involvement with leading players such as City Lodge Hotels.”
