During this season of giving, employees at the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) spread some holiday cheer and made the season brighter by providing gifts to half a dozen of Chicago’s neediest families, children and seniors.
On Wednesday, December 18, the CDA delivered dozens of toys, games, sporting goods and gift cards to SOS Children’s Villages Illinois. The agency helps children who are victims of domestic abuse, neglect or abandonment by offering a place to call home and space to heal.
The following day, CDA employees at O’Hare and Midway delivered 27 senior gift baskets to the Chicago Department of Family & Support Services (DFSS), a city department which coordinates services to enhance the lives of Chicago residents in need, from infants to seniors.
Today, a delivery was made to a family through Casa Catalina, a food pantry on Chicago’s Back of the Yards Neighborhood. The CDA’s Safety and Security section alone raised $800 for gifts for one of the six selected families.
“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are pleased to have the opportunity to provide gifts and essentials to some of Chicago’s neediest and underprivileged families during the holiday season,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “SOS. Children’s Villages Illinois, Chicago Cares and many other organizations are dedicated to helping those most in need. We look forward to continuing to support these organizations so that they can continue to do their important work to help children and families.”
For nearly a decade, through the Chicago Cares program, employees purchased toys, home essentials and gift cards, wrapped them, and delivered the gifts to six families in need living in the Chicago area.
