China adds more names to its blacklist of badly behaved tourists

China badly behaved touristsMore names have added to the blacklist of uncivilised behaviour. There are about 16 who have been added to the list for embarrassing China abroad. The list has been disclosed by the China National Tourism Administration.

Those included in the list are two women and a man who brawled on a flight from Cambodia to the Chinese city of Chengdu when a woman reclined in her seat too much. This led to the delay of the plane for an hour after the pilot asked the officials to remove the squabbling passenger.

The other was a man in the Japanese convenience store asked the man’s wife to stop opening and eating food items as the couple had not paid for them.

It was announced by Beijing earlier that a public shame was being planned for unruly tourists. Chinese citizens were being encouraged to take photos or videos of bad behaviour in public from other Chinese citizens.

Punishment for uncivilised behaviour includes ban in air travel. This was the latest step taken by the Chinese authority to curb bad behaviour in home and abroad. This requires tourists to respect the local culture.

The Chinese televison is also airing in its public video service to educate tourists on what behaviour is acceptable abroad. A bad panda character is being used to show what behaviours must not be practiced in public, like urinating in public.

The Chinese President has also chided Chinese travellers to behave better in public. He also told Chinese tourists to eat less instant noodles in response to the reports from the high-end resorts in the Maldives who were removing kettles from their rooms to stop Chinese tourists from cooking instant noodles.

The worst incident which received international defamation in 2013 was that of the Chinese teenagers who defaced the 3500-year-old temple in Egypt. In the following year a Chinese passenger threw hot water on the flight attendant in an AirAsia flight from Thailand.

The Chinese have earned the title of being the worst tourist of the world. Being the strongest outbound market people do want the Chinese to come. Loosened state regulation and rising economy are being attributed for the rise in the Chinese overseas travel market. But despite the warnings a Chinese passenger tried to sneak into the first class of the Shanghai to New York flight. The passenger had to be removed from the plane.
