“A well deserved win for Dubai and the UAE, the first Middle East nation to host the World Expo. This will bring up to 25 million visitors to Dubai, 70% of which will come from overseas, and will yet again raise the profile of the UAE as a key destination for business tourism and the meetings sector – both in the run-up to 2020 and post-expo – and will also be supported by a reported US$7 billion worth of tourism related infrastructure development.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch has said that hosting the event could positively impact GDP by up to US$23 billion between 2015 and 2021 which, combined with Alpen Capital’s forecasted rise in tourism receipts by 67% over the next few years puts the industry in prime position to capitalise on this historic event.” Lois Hall, Exhibition Director, Gulf Incentives, Business, Travel and Meetings (GIBTM).
