The twelve finalists for the Miss Seychelles…another world beauty pageant have been announced by Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board. Seychelles moved from just promoting itself as a sun, sea and sand tourism destination when President James Michel, who was then personally holding the portfolio for tourism moved to put the people of the islands at the centre of the tourism development of the Seychelles and to make the mid-ocean island an events based destination.
The Tourism Board have since then taken on the new approach. “In placing our people in the centre of our tourism development we now have a unique marketing base with our very own DNA and this is our culture” said a representative of the Tourism Board.
One of the events that is now organised annually by the Tourism Board is the Miss Seychelles…another world Beauty Pageant. “We cannot be seen promoting anyone else but our very own beauty queens” said the Tourism Board representative.
Camila Estico, Lisa Rose, Elmina Savy, Marvel Godley, Anabelle Pointe, Stephanie Duval, Christa Joubert, Michaella Rosette, Melissa Pool, Raphaela Dugasse, Ronda Sidonie and Florella Cedras are the twelve finalists for the 2014 Beauty Pageant set for the 31 May and one of these young Seychelloise will become the island’s ambassador for the year 2014 and attend Tourism Trade Fairs with the Tourism Board.
Tourism remains very much a people’s industry and showcasing Miss Seychelles…another world as part of Tourism Promotion exercises will keep people and culture in its rightful place as key ingredients in the island’s economy.
