Denver-Int-AirportFor the third consecutive month, passenger traffic at Denver International Airport reached a record high.

February 2014 was the busiest on record for a non-leap year with 3,779,715 passengers traveling through DIA, a 2.2 percent increase over the airport’s travelers in February 2013.

February 2008, which was a leap year, was the only other February with slightly higher passenger traffic than February 2014.

The airport ended 2013 by setting a record for the busiest December and started 2014 with the busiest January in its 19-year history.

To date, 2014 passenger traffic is up 1.5 percent to 7,836,573 passengers when compared to 7,721,880 during the same time period in 2013.

International passenger traffic continued its year-over-year growth with an increase of nearly 28 percent in February 2014 when compared to February 2013.

Aeromexico celebrated five years of Denver to Mexico service in February and saw one of its busiest months ever.

Volaris, which also provides nonstop service between Denver and Mexico City, recorded a 45 percent increase in passenger traffic in February 2014 when compared to February 2013.

In addition, United’s flight from DIA to Tokyo, Japan (NRT) continues to see
strong passenger numbers.

“Our international passenger traffic continues to do extremely well with a significant boost this month in travel between Denver and Mexico,” said Denver’s Manager of Aviation Kim Day.

“We also saw another strong month for origin and destination traffic, which indicates more people traveling to and from Colorado.

These strong traffic numbers indicate a healthy economic start to 2014 for our region.”

Additionally, mail, freight and express cargo operations saw a 4 percent decrease in February compared to the previous year.

To date, 77,649,089 pounds of cargo have been handled at DIA in 2014, down from 83,379,512 pounds of cargo handled during the same time in 2013.
