East-Arnhem-Land-300x175Australia’s number one rating breakfast show ‘Sunrise’ will feature East Arnhem Land and Darwin during five days of live weather crosses starting today.
Minister for Tourism Matt Conlan said Sunrise is the first national television breakfast program to broadcast live from East Arnhem Land.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase amazing Arnhem Land to a huge national audience and will provide a significant boost to tourism in the region,” said Mr Conlan.
“Arnhem Land is one of the Territory’s great hidden tourism gems but after this week’s broadcast the secret may well just be out.

“The Sunrise broadcast will include segments on a range of fun, out-of-the-ordinary activities visitors can do while in Arnhem Land and encourage viewers to book a holiday and experience them first-hand.”

The week-long Sunrise Territory road trip will also include stops in Darwin.
The live crosses will be from five different locations, kicking off this morning with Bawaka Homeland on Lonely Beach in East Arnhem Land, followed by Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Centre at Yirrkala, then Gove Boat Club, then back to Darwin for Crocosaurus Cove on Thursday morning and the Darwin Waterfront on Friday morning.

st Arnhem Land and Darwin as a holiday and comes at a perfect time when we can highlight the fantastic Dry Season in the Top End including our jam-packed FestivalsNT calendar of events,” said Mr Conlan.

“There will also be opportunities for the local communities in Gove and Darwin to be part of the fun and be in the live broadcasts – so for all the Sunrise fans out there make sure you get involved.”

Sunrise weather presenter Edwina Bartholomew said: “Sunrise is always looking to push the boundaries of live television to the most remote and challenging areas in Australia. East Arnhem Land certainly fits the bill!”

“We love visiting tourism hot spots but it’s the remote and undiscovered locations like East Arnhem Land that we particularly look forward to showcasing. This Sunrise trip will bring it right into people’s lounge rooms. If even just one viewer says, ‘I’d love to go there one day’, our job is done.”

The locations which locals are welcome to attend are the Gove Boat Club on Wednesday 14 August and Darwin Waterfront on Friday 15 August from 6 to 9am. The broadcast has been facilitated by Tourism NT.
