Eastern-Oriental-Express-300x154If you are a tiger lover then you are sure to be a part of this journey. The Eastern & Oriental Express is organising a special fund raising journey in aid to Save Wild Tigers from 2 – 6 October 2014

The journey will be through the tiger habitat of Singapore and Malaysia and will be accompanied by a lavish dinner with guests as prestigious as the Malaysian Royal Family, international celebrities and VIPs at the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The five-day adventure includes one night at Raffles, Singapore, two nights on the Eastern & Oriental Express and one night at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok.

The journey begins at the iconic Raffles, Singapore, where following an exclusive breakfast reception, guests check-in for their journey on the Eastern & Oriental Express. The train then travels through rural Malaysia and onwards to Kuala Lumpur for a star-studded Gala dinner at the Majestic Hotel with a charity auction.

The will have the opportunity of private viewing of a specially curated tiger-art exhibition, at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang. Conservationists will provide insights and lectures on the plight of the tigers as the train travels through Thailand. They will educate people on the plights of the tigers and also showcase the work underway to help conserve tigers. Also there will be an option to tour the jungles with expert guides.

Excursions include a cruise along the River Kwai with a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and the Don Rak War Cemetery. The final night at the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, culminates in an exquisite cocktail reception.

Nicolas Pillet, General Manager, Eastern & Oriental Express, said that they were proud to lend their support to this worthwhile cause – the train travels through the heart of the historic tiger territories in Malaysia and Thailand; it’s a sad fact that today there are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. He hoped the fundraising gala events on the Eastern & Oriental Express and at the partner hotels will raise significant funds and awareness to help bring the beautiful creatures back from their otherwise certain extinction.

Simon Clinton, Founder, Save Wild Tigers commented that with only 10 years left to save this iconic species from extinction, the clock really is ticking. He felt really proud & grateful to be working with the Eastern & Oriental Express in providing passengers a chance to experience a trip of a lifetime, for what surely must be the cause of a lifetime. All profits from our fund raising activities will go to global and local targeted tiger conservation projects, funds that are desperately needed.

In addition to the special journey in October, guests travelling on the Eastern & Oriental Express throughout 2014 will have the opportunity to place silent bids for a Crystal Tiger Sculpture, designed by artist, Lauren Baker, with the winning bid to be revealed on the final night of the ‘Tiger Express’ journey at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The artwork will be on display on the train and a second sculpture will be revealed at the Gala Dinner at the Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and will be one of the star items in the charity auction.

Save Wild Tigers is an independent, non-profit organisation registered in the UK dedicated to turning back the clock for wild tigers. Tiger numbers have declined dramatically and have now reached a critical stage with only 3,500 left in the wild – their survival is in the balance.

Up to 30% of ticket prices for this journey will go directly to targeted tiger conservations programmes, including The Born Free Foundation, the Environmental investigation agency and Mycat in Malaysia.

Prices start from £2,960 (approx. US$ 4,832) per person for this five days/four night journey. Terms and conditions apply.
