Incheon International Airport Corporation, in order to meet the needs of continuously increasing number of passengers in international flights, started to operate 19 more check-in counters for international flights, increasing the number from 380 to 399 beginning from December 11th.
This facilities enlargement work is about the transformation of 19 counters which are located on the 3rd floor and were originally used for domestic flights into the counters for international flights. The original counters for domestic flights and departure gates are moved to the 1st floor of the passengers’ terminal and being operated since November 11th.
Due to the close location of newly-constructed counters for international flights and the meeting location of party travelers in Eastern area, it is planned to be used to run party travelers counter of Korean Air airline. So, the movement of passengers using the tour packages offered by tour companies is expected to decrease drastically.
In addition to this, Incheon Airport plans to increase the number of self-check-in machines up to 100, by installing 21 more machines until March next year. Also, the number of operating airlines is planned to be increased up to 12 including Jeju Air, Philippine Air and etc.
Furthermore, in case if aviation security law’s revised bill, which is currently in the middle of pending by the Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly, is signed into law the web check-in via internet will be simplified and the previously existed procedure where one has to undergo the airlines’ verification in the airport even after doing the web check-in will disappear, which will make the direct boarding by e-boarding pass possible. It is expected that this matter will simplify the check-in procedure of departing passengers even more.
Incheon Airport Corporation plans to put the efforts into system vitalization expecting that in case if selfcheck- in, web check-in and other automatic check-in procedures are gradually expanded the passengers’ convenience will grow along with the increase in efficiency of airlines’ operation.
