There were 33 tourists from South Korea in the bus who were returning from a visit to the Greek Orthodox Monastery of St. Catherine’s, in the Sinai Peninsula. The bus was waiting in a line near the border crossing of Israel when the incident occurred, said Brig. Gen. Alaa Mahmoud.

Three tourists along with the bus driver were killed said the Health Ministry officials. Ambulances and patrol cars were sent immediately to the spot by Israel. The Egyptian authorities extended their help. The Egypt’s Minister of Tourism Hesham Zaazou said the Egyptian government had taken the “utmost measures” to protect tourists in the country.

The recent terror attacks have been quite active in Egypt causing a lot of problems in tourism. Some attacks have been inspired by the al Qaeda and the Egypt military s taking strong action against them.

Taba is in the northeastern Sinai Peninsula, just a few miles from Israel. It was also the scene of a triple bombing in 2004, when 34 people were killed at hotels that were attacked.
