ASEANFederation of ASEAN Travel Associations (FATA) President Datuk Hamzah Rahmat is pleased to announce the major activities lined up for 2017.

Hamzah disclosed “Various important issues were discussed and deliberated at the
FATA board meeting today. Among the decisions taken were for members to
undergo training on Crisis Disaster Management & Cyber Security, organise
Business-To-Business (B2B) sessions on internet business, and embark on
roadshows for next year.”

He elaborated “The training will be conducted by UK’s Bournemouth University
Disaster Management Centre. The training will be two phase and each covers five
days, with a gap in between to allow participants sufficient time to prepare and later
present contingency plans for scrutiny during the second phase.”

“A high level of professional training is crucial for both tourism players and government agencies. They include tour operators, destination and event management companies, airlines, hotels, theme parks, and train and bus operators.
Government agencies include national and state tourism organisations, police, hospitals and ambulance services, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and foreign missions.”

“Bournemouth University would bring its depth and breadth of disaster management
from a global perspective, and participants would fine tune its applications to suit
organisational and national requirements.”

“The benefits of such training is needed as a better understanding and preparedness
could mitigate the loss of lives and properties, and alleviate the sufferings of the
victims and their loved ones.”

The training on “Crisis Disaster Management and Cyber Security” will empower key
personnel in ASEAN countries to better prepare and cope in any crisis.”
“It is imperative to bring normalcy back within the shortest possible time after a
crisis, so that tourism can continue to grow for the benefit of everyone”, concluded
