Flybe Reports Increased Sales For Upcoming Bank Holiday Weekend

Published on : Friday, August 26, 2016

flybe-logoFlybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, is reporting a 17% increase in passenger numbers over the three days of the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend (27th – 29th August, 2016) when compared to 2015 on what is predicted in many newspapers to be the ‘worst bank holiday traffic in a decade’ for road and rail travel. The volume of cars on main umbilical roads is forecast to cause tailbacks of up to two hours on the busiest routes in the UK alongside 940 separate engineering works planned across the entire UK rail network.

So instead it appears travellers wanting to make the most of their time on the last long holiday weekend of the summer are choosing to soar over it all with Flybe, with seats still available for last minute bookings.

One of the airline’s top five most popular routes this weekend is Edinburgh to Southampton, which by car would take seven grueling hours even without the predicted traffic jams on the M6 and M3. This compared with just an hour and a half flight time.

Flybe customers are also travelling even further afield this weekend with Eurocity destinations from the UK experiencing a 36% increase in passenger numbers, with Amsterdam being one of the top destinations.

And for those looking forward to their next city break, Flybe has today put 50,000 seats on sale, which – for travel through to 29th October with one way fares from £31.99 at conveniently covers the October half-term break.

Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s Chief Revenue Officer comments: “The late summer Bank Holiday is traditionally a difficult time for anyone travelling on the roads already, but this year looks set to be even worse. This could be one of the reasons that people are choosing to fly and avoid the stress altogether by using their regional airport to make quicker and more convenient air travel this weekend.”
