Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica Chefs Take Home First Place at Costa Rica’s Maestro Culinario

FOUR-SEASONS-RESORT-240x300Two talented members of the culinary team at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, Danny Luna and Heberto Mejía, have taken home top honours and the highest scores ever at Maestro Culinario, Costa Rica’s most prestigious culinary competition.

Hosted every other year for the past decade, the 2014 Maestro Culinario competition attracted more than 130 chefs from all regions of Costa Rica. Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica Chefs Danny Luna and Heberto Mejia first won their preliminary region of Liberia, and then went on to win the final cooking competition in early April in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The two partnered to score enough points for a gold medal, the first in the competition’s 10-year history.

 

Danny Luna is a Sous Chef at Papagayo, a casual all-day restaurant at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica.  The restaurant is known for its incredible brunch with more than 60 items as well as local Costa Rican specialties. Luna also won first place honours with partner Jose Pablo at Maestro Culinario in 2011.  Heberto Mejía is a Line Cook and emerging talent at Di Mare, the hotel’s dinner-only restaurant highlighting seafood and Italian specialties.  Di Mare also offers a behind-the-scenes Chef’s Table experience for up to four guests.

Two of the winning dishes prepared by Luna and Mejía at the 2014 Maestro Culinario competition, including local ingredients such as green papaya, chocolate, shrimp and red snapper fish from Costa Rica, will be featured soon on the menus at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica for guests to enjoy.
