There are UK weather warnings in place this weekend with predictions of heavy rains and strong winds.
Contingency plans have been put in-place to minimise the impact of any potential flooding at Gatwick Airport. All critical sub-stations and switch rooms for example have sand bag protection in place and additional pumps are located around the airport to remove any water build-up in critical locations. There are also extra stand-by generators on the airport should they be required and additional engineering and electrical staff will be on site throughout the weekend to respond quickly to any issue that may arise. Staff volunteers will also be on hand to assist passengers.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights with their airline as well as the road and rail conditions and to allow extra time to travel to and from the airport.
