Germany’s Baltrum Island to lit up this Valentine’s Day

Published on : Monday, February 4, 2013

Often called as sleeping beauty of the North Sea, Baltrum Island in Germany can be the perfect place to celebrate this Valentine’s Day. If your partner is a beach person and loves the sea then there can be no better place than this smallest of the East Frisian Islands to snuggle down with your loved one in one of the island’s many wicker beach chairs.

Baltrum belongs in part to the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Deep in the Wadden Sea, holidaymakers enjoy a car-free oasis, peace and quiet and plenty of bracing North Sea air.

Baltrum, the middle East Frisian island, was certified as a North Sea spa resort in 1966. Measuring only five kilometres from end to end and barely 1.5 kilometres across, this ‘Sleeping Beauty of the North Sea’ is the smallest island in the chain. So you can easily walk round it in one go – ideally along the magnificent beach that stretches for a good four kilometres along the island’s northern and western flank. The swimming beach, which can be as wide as 200 metres and even 300 metres at low tide, is also great for kids, with plenty of space for games, sand castles and sunbathing. It’s a place to discover Baltrum’s gentler pace of life.

The island has a wide range of sports, culture and entertainment on offer, with windsurfing and kiteboarding at the top of the list. The offshore sandbanks provide beginners with perfect training conditions at low tide, as they provide cover from the larger waves. You can choose from a wide range of health and wellness treatments at Baltrum’s spa centre, including thalassotherapy, mud packs and various relaxation exercises, all aimed at soothing body and soul.
And to keep that homely feel right through until bedtime, there is a range of accommodation on offer – from charming holiday apartments with lush front gardens to three-star hotels. Baltrum has something for everyone!Embrace this new chapter meet here and push yourself outside of your comfort zone
