Tourism-Ireland-imagesMore than two million readers of the prestigious New York Times have been reading all about Enniskillen and this year’s hugely successful Happy Days International Beckett Festival.

Tourism Ireland – in conjunction with the Happy Days Festival – invited The New York Times, as well as a number of journalists from other top national publications in GB, the United States and Germany, to come and experience the festival and to sample what makes Enniskillen and the Fermanagh Lakelands such a special place for a holiday or short break.

The visit of these journalists has already generated extensive positive publicity for the festival and Fermanagh – including the story in a recent edition of The New York Times, under the headline “In Northern Ireland, a Celebration of Samuel Beckett”. The New York Times has a circulation of more than 2.1 million people. Other articles about the festival have appeared in major newspapers like The Telegraph, the Guardian and the Observer.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “I am delighted to see such positive exposure for the Happy Days Festival and Enniskillen in important publications like The New York Times and the Guardian. Inviting influential media to come and experience at first-hand what Northern Ireland has to offer is a key element of our publicity and PR programme, helping us to spread the good news across the world about the many things to see and do in Northern Ireland
