Published on : Monday, November 11, 2013

HKTB“Great Outdoors Hong Kong” commenced today with a kick-off ceremony at Peak Road Garden, The Peak. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and co-organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the promotion will run for about three and a half months this year.

Officiating at the ceremony were HKTB Executive Director Mr Anthony Lau and AFCD Director Mr Alan Wong, joined by Chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong Mr Michael Wu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Hotels Association Mr Victor Chan, and Vice Chairman of Friends of the Country Parks Mr John Hui.

This is the fifth straight year the HKTB has organised “Great Outdoors Hong Kong”. The promotional period has been extended from five weeks last year to about three and a half months this year to encourage more visitors to enjoy Hong Kong’s alluring natural attractions. From now until 21 February 2014, 10 guided tours along six themed hiking trails will be available for visitors on various Saturdays and Sundays.

In addition, for the very first time, the HKTB has collaborated with a local cycling group to organise four guided cycling tours for visitors to enjoy Hong Kong’s scenery in a new way. These cycling tours will be held once every month between November 2013 and February 2014. The route will run from Shatin to Tai Po, spanning about 16km.

The activity guide will be available at major ports-of-entry and HKTB visitor centres, and from hotel concierges during the “Great Outdoors Hong Kong” promotional period.

Local residents can sign up for hiking tours organised by the AFCD. Each tour is for a maximum of 1,000 persons, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please visit the AFCD website (www.natureintouch.gov.hk) for details and enrolment.
