Miami International Airport is celebrating the holiday season with three record-breaking days: Friday, December 18, welcomed 147,841 travelers; Saturday, December 19, set a single-day passenger record of 155,620 passengers; and Sunday, December 20, received 147,856 customers. The three-day weekend saw close to 500,000 passengers fly in and out of MIA.
“I’m overjoyed that we set a single-day passenger record during this record-breaking weekend and we still have our busiest days ahead of us,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “Miami continues to be a desirable destination for travelers from around the world. MIA is proud to be the global hub to welcome visitors to our community and we look forward to adding new carriers and routes in 2016.”
More than 2.3 million passengers are expected at MIA over the 17-day travel period between Monday, December 21, and Wednesday, January 6, which is a three-percent increase over last year. The busiest days are projected to be the Saturday, Sunday and Monday after New Year’s Day, when more than 145,000 passengers are expected at MIA on all three days.
With December being MIA’s busiest month for passengers, yielding more than four million in 2014, the last 21 days of the year could take MIA over the 44 million passenger threshold.
