Hurricane mars international boating event capsizing boats and injuring 10 children in Northern Ireland

The-Exe-Sails-GP14-2014-World-ChampionshipA mini hurricane barged amid an international boating event capsizing a number of dinghies and injuring ten children on a lough in Northern Ireland.

Winds at around 60mph gushed across the lough when 200 people were in water.

Some sailed ashore while others were left in the water to face the storm. Around 12 vessels capsized in water.

Those injured were taken to the hospital and treated with hypothermia and one person suffered head injury.

Rescue operation began immediately with Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey.

 

Two police helicopters along with two life boats reached the spot. All those capsized were rescued.

The winds and the current were very strong. The Exe Sails GP14 2014 World Championship was taking place in the East Down Yacht Club when a storm capsized the vessel.

 

It was the biggest fleets of single class twin crew dinghies competition to assemble in Northern Ireland.
