Indian visa cannot do without biometrics feels home ministry

VisaThe exclusion of bio-metrics from normal Indian visa cannot be done due to security concerns said the Union home ministry. The ministry suggested that foreign tourists should be encouraged to go for electronic tourist (e-Visa) that allows biometrics to be taken at the time of arrival.

The tourism ministry however feels that bio- metrics before issue of normal visa is preventing many to book trips to India and hindering the flow of international tourists to the country.

If Bio-metrics is not made compulsory the tourism ministry feels that the country would witness a greater share in the world tourist market in the next three years. The increase could be as high as 0.68 per cent which would mean the inflow of almost 7.70 million foreign tourists to India. The foreign secretary also agreed that bio metrics is needed at the point when the tourist is about to immigrate into that country not while obtaining the visa. The home ministry is firm on its stand and feels that the implementation of bio metrics already extended to 77 countries and waiting to be issued to 73 more is necessary for all foreign tourists hoping to visit India.

The Ministry feels that bio-metrics is an effective way of Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT). Once a visitor gets his biometrics done then the same person will not have to go through the process again as the details of the person will be saved in the database. The biometrics will help detect the entry of any suspicious person on the basis of the records given maintaining the country’s security.
