Jason Furman to Deliver Keynote Speech at February 2014 Tax Council Policy Institute’s Tax Symposium

DELOITTE-300x118The Tax Council Policy Institute (TCPI) announced today that Jason Furman, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, will deliver a keynote speech at its 15th Annual Tax Policy and Practice Symposium, to be held February 19-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC. This year’s program will be managed by Deloitte Tax LLP, which offers a broad range of fully integrated tax services. The symposium will feature a full slate of speakers and panel discussions featuring eminent tax authorities in government, private sector and academia.

“Jason Furman is one of the most well versed leaders in global economic policy and a key voice in the debate about tax reform in the United States today,” said Lynda K. Walker, Esq., executive director and general counsel of TCPI. “We are honored to announce him as a keynote speaker for the 15th symposium and look forward to his insights about U.S. tax policy and the role and impact of taxes in today’s global economy.”

In addition to his position on the Council of Economic Advisors, Furman has served as assistant to the president for economic policy and principal deputy director of the National Economic Council under President Obama as well as special assistant to the president for economic policy at the National Economic Council under President Clinton. He has also served as senior fellow in economic studies and director of the Hamilton Project at the Brookings Institute and senior advisor to the chief economist and senior vice president of the World Bank.

Furman, who earned his doctorate in economics and a master’s degree in government from Harvard University and a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics, has also served as visiting scholar at NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, a visiting lecturer at Yale and Columbia universities and a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. He has conducted research in a wide range of areas, including fiscal policy, tax policy, health economics, social security and monetary policy. In addition to numerous articles in scholarly journals and periodicals, Furman is the editor of several books on economic policy, including “Path to Prosperity” and “Who Has the Cure.”

TCPI’s 15th annual symposium, “Why Taxes Matter: The Impact of Tax Policy on Strategic Business Decisions,” will bring together leading professionals and policymakers to discuss the critical link between tax policy and business decision-making. Topics will include the role of taxation in the deployment of financial capital, balancing base broadening, cross border taxation, international tax policy and policy implications of tax reform.
