Housed in the Lowndes Bar & Kitchen restaurant and the hotel’s newly refurbished Map Room function space, books from the Belgravia lending library are available for all guests to borrow.

Titles in the Belgravia Lending Library include Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Julian Fellowes’ Belgravia, Ian Fleming’s James Bond series, an anthology of Tennyson poetry, a stunning photography book showcasing Philip Treacy’s hats and biographies of politician Margaret Thatcher, poet and novelist Vita Sackville-West and actress Vivien Leigh.

The collection also features books about those with lesser-known Belgravia connections, such as The Man Behind the Great Train Robbery, the autobiography of Bruce Reynolds who plotted much of the notorious heist in the nearby Star Tavern. Famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart also makes an appearance having written his first symphony at 180 Ebury Street in 1764.

General Manager Ian Richardson, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating the rich literary history of this fascinating area and supporting a local independent business with our Belgravia Books collaboration. Belgravia’s cobbled streets, hidden mews, ancient pubs and grand town houses are full of stories and we hope that the Belgravia Lending Library will bring some of these to life for our guests.”

An explanation for each book’s inclusion in the collection can be found inside each cover. Guests at Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel wishing to take a new copy of any of the books home can arrange this through the hotel concierge and will also benefit from a 20% discount at Belgravia Books on presentation of their room key card in the store.
