LaMangaClub-20sep16-202x300La Manga Club’s role as a driving force in international golf tourism has been enhanced after the top Spanish sports and leisure venue was named as one of Europe’s elite golf resorts in an eagerly-anticipated new list of the continent’s premier places to play and stay.

The world-famous venue in Murcia, south-east Spain, received glowing praise after securing a top-ten position in Golf World magazine’s inaugural ‘Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe 2017’ rankings.

The poll ranked resorts across five different categories – golf courses, accommodation, amenities, practice facilities and accessibility – with La Manga Club scoring highly in each to achieve an overall total of 82.1 out of 100.

A five-time host of the Spanish Open, La Manga Club is an established favourite with European golfers and features three 18-hole courses, a nine-hole academy course and extensive practice facilities among its array of five-star sports and leisure facilities.

Summarising its decision, the magazine, said: “(The resort) is sports heaven, including 54 solid holes …. it is arguably Europe’s best-known resort with a range of accommodation led by a large hotel, a lot of leisure facilities and academy.”

José Asenjo, La Manga Club’s general manager, said: “La Manga Club has been a haven for golfers ever since it opened and it’s fantastic that the resort remains as popular as ever with players all across the world.
“To be recognised as one of Europe’s top golfing destinations is testament to the appeal of La Manga Club and the outstanding facilities we offer our guests, and we’re confident that with a period of new investment we can achieve further success in the future.”
The award is the latest honour to be bestowed on La Manga Club and is further recognition for the significant recent investment the resort has made in its golf and leisure facilities, which has included upgrading its golf buggy fleet and refurbishing four of its bars and restaurants, including the rebranded 37 Spike & Sports Bar in the golf clubhouse.

Set across an area of 1,400 acres, the resort has been at the forefront of European sports and leisure destinations for more than four decades, with recent accolades including being named as Spain’s best golf hotel at the World Golf Awards for the last two years, being voted best golf resort in Spain by Today’s Golfer readers for the fifth year in a row and being in the world’s top five golf resorts at the prestigious 2016 Ultras Awards.

As well as golf, La Manga Club – the official overseas training base of the Lawn Tennis Association – also boasts a 28-court tennis academy, a High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex, a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
