La Paloma Country Club, located at the iconic Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson, Ariz., is pleased to announce it has been honored with the International Association of Golf Tour Operators’ (IAGTO) first ever Sustainability Award for Community Engagement.
La Paloma received the much desired accolade during the 14th annual IAGTO Awards Ceremony held on November 14, 2013 in Catalonia, Spain. The gala event is held each year in conjunction with the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM). La Paloma was noted for its strong focus on employee well-being and outreach projects and employee volunteer programs dedicated to establishing green practices and supporting local communities through volunteer projects and fundraisers.
“We’re all on this planet together,” stated Patrick Galloway, general manager of La Paloma Country Club. “It is up to us to protect our environment for future generations, and support our community in every way possible. Our Associates can be proud of La Paloma Country Club and The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa for their dedication to sustaining our environment for the future.”
IAGTO is the global trade organization for the golf tourism industry, comprising more than 2,100 companies in 95 countries, including 520 specialist golf tour operators in 62 countries. The IAGTO Awards are the official annual awards for the golf tourism industry and this year’s event marked the first time any award has been given in the category of sustainability. The new Sustainability Awards were introduced as a result of a collaboration between IAGTO and the Golf Environment Organization (GEO) to recognize excellence in golf course sustainability.
