Las Vegas – the most popular destination for Labor Day Travel 2014

Priceline.com’s annual list of top Labor Day destinations is out, and Las Vegas still tops the list for the upcoming holiday weekend. Las Vegas is joined in the top five by Chicago, Atlanta, San Diego and New York City, all of which held on to a top five ranking from 2013 with the exception of San Diego,

which replaced this year’s 8th place holder, Orange County. The biggest mover and shaker; however, was St. Louis, which moved 29 spots from #39 in 2013 to #10 in 2014.

“Beach destinations on both coasts can expect big crowds for this last summer fling,” said priceline.com Travel Editor Brian Ek. “Eastern beaches should be packed, with places like Atlantic City, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach and Ocean City all making the list. Meanwhile, the major U.S. cities are going to be crowded over the long weekend as well, as visitors get in their back-to-school and fall shopping, and enjoy the restaurants, theatres and museums of these cities.”

For the most bang for your buck, spend the long weekend in either Miami or Dallas, both of which experienced significant drops in average daily rates; 16% and 14%, respectively.
