Madhya Pradesh recognised as best Pilgrimage Tourism 2015

IMG-20150810-WA0039Madhya Pradesh (MP) Tourism receives another award as being the ‘Best State for Pilgrimage Tourism 2015’ from the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association.

 

The award was given in an event organized at the Ashoka Hotel New Delhi by the Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma. Also present on the occasion were, Minister of Tourism Karnataka, R.V. Deshpande and Minister of tourism Goa, Dilip Parulkar along with other noteworthy members associated with tourism.

 

Madhya Pradesh ( MP) is a significant pilgrimage destination which receives thousands of pilgrims annually. Ujjain an ancient city which also finds mention in the Vedas is regarded as one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) of the Hindus and is one of the four sites along with Prayag (Allahabad), Hardwar and Nasik that host the Kumbh Mela. The event finds both domestic and international visitors touring this destination throughout the year. The 2016 Kumbh Mela is expected to bring huge visitation to the state.

 

Amarkantak receives large number of tourists throughout the year. Being a pilgrimage destination, majority of them are Hindu devotees. However owing to the geographical beauty of the place it receives international visitors too. The forests and tribal cultures of the villagers are indeed of great fascination for many tourists.

 

Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple dedicated to God Shiva. It is one of the twelve revered Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. Hindus visit this holy pilgrimage sport in large numbers. The place is well provided with facilities and comfort for all budgets. There are many interesting stories that surround this pilgrimage spot with awe and inspiration.

 

Anjad is situated in the Narmada Valley. It is popular for its ancient Nagari Mata Temple, located on top of the valley. There are two other temples, namely Gayatri Temple and Saibaba Temple. Anjad is also famous for its cotton factory, an employment source for thousands of locals.

 

Apart from these Madhya Pradesh has hundreds of pilgrimage spots strewn all over the state. Not only are these places attractive to tourists for their pilgrimage value but the caves and temples located in natural settings attract a lot of adventure tourists to Madhya Pradesh (MP).
