Sri-LankaDriven by its variety of attractions, the Sri Lankan government expects some 30,000 Malaysian travellers to the country this year.
After launching Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau roadshow in Johor Baharu,  Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ibrahim Ansar, said until July this year, there were about 12,311 Malaysians who visited the Commonwealth country.
“Last year, we had about 23,000 Malaysian visitors to Sri Lanka and it reflected the strong diplomatic relations with Malaysia since our independence,” he said.
“Although Malaysia is not a major contributor to our tourism sector unlike India, the United Kingdom, China and France, we still see Malaysia as a promising and potential market,” he said.
Malaysia is ranked third among countries in Asia in terms of the number of visitors to Sri Lanka in the last three years after Singapore and Japan.
Therefore, the country would further promote its various attractions such as beaches, wildlife and historic sites of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), he said.
