Mayor Greg Fischer And Skillsusa Hold “Circle Of Champions” Breakfast

Louisville-Convention-Visitors-BureauSkillsUSA, a national nonprofit that strives to provide a highly skilled and quality workforce in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, will hold their annual National Leadership and Skills Conference and SkillsUSA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. To initiate introductions to the Louisville business and industry community, Mayor Greg Fischer and SkillsUSA will hold a “Circle of Champions” breakfast on January 16, 2014 (the inclement weather date will be January 24, 2014) at the Kentucky Exposition Center.Mayor Mayor  The breakfast will highlight the future workforce talent that SkillsUSA will be bringing to Louisville for six years, starting in 2015.

A “Circle” of select SkillsUSA students from the region will demonstrate their skills and leadership abilities as the invited guests enter the facility. Speakers for the breakfast will include Mayor Fischer; Tim Lawrence, Executive Director of SkillsUSA; Dr. Dale Winkler, Kentucky State Director of Career and Technical Education; and, Craig Richard, Greater Louisville, Inc. President and CEO. In addition, Larry Roberts, Secretary of Governor Beshear’s Labor Cabinet is scheduled to attend.

SkillsUSA will introduce the SkillsUSA Championships during the breakfast. The SkillsUSA Championships is the nation’s preeminent showcase of public technical education and highlights 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students who compete in more than 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields. The students work against the clock and each other and prove their expertise in job skills for occupations such as electronics, pre-engineering, robotics, precision machining, medical assisting, information technology, graphic arts, culinary arts and in leadership skills such as extemporaneous speaking and conducting proper business meetings. This annual event is considered the single greatest day of industry volunteerism bin America, with an estimated $35 million in donations of volunteer time, contest equipment and contest prizes.
