According to a review released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Middle East civil aviation posted a strong increase of 12.1 percent in passenger traffic year on year, outperforming its global counterparts.
The Association said, the carriers in the Middle East have benefited from the continued strength of regional economies, especially Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the solid growth in business-related premium travel, “particularly to developing markets such as Africa.”
However, the growth did not break the 15.4-percent increase recorded in 2012.
The strongest overall growth, domestic and international combined, was recorded in the Middle East (11.4 percent), which was followed by Asia-Pacific (7.1 percent), Latin America (6.3 percent) and Africa (5.2 percent).
The slowest growth was recorded in the developed markets of North America (2.3 percent) and Europe (3.8 percent).
