Moscow Domodedovo AirportMoscow Domodedovo Airport was awarded by the American company Esri for its significant contribution to development of geoinformational technologies.
This fact confirms high level of competence of the air hub specialists, as well as the appropriateness of the strategy for using this product for automation of key airport management processes.
A geographic information system (GIS) of Moscow Domodedovo Airport covers a range of critical business functions, including processes of managing the airport complex, real estate, business activities, and others. At the moment, it is planned to enhance the GIS functionality at Moscow Domodedovo Airport and to ensure access to a greater number of services of the airport.
GIS is widely used in the aviation industry for a variety of tasks related to management and development of airports, air-traffic control and air navigation, transportation safety, logistics and many others. Despite the fact that GIS has become a standard technology used by the industry, implementation and support of the system in such a large and complex enterprise as a modern airport requires the best skills of all participants of the project. That is why such projects always provoke interest of the professional community and are highly appreciated.
Recognized worldwide by the GIS-community as the most prestigious professional award − Special Achievement in GIS Award (SAG) − was established by Esri more than 15 years ago. This award is given to the organizations implemented the most interesting and landmark GIS projects; it recognizes the highest level achieved in application of geoinformational technologies. Each year, thousands of projects and organizations are nominated for the award.
Companies from around the world, operating in a variety of different areas, became SAG winners. The award was given to the largest airports of the world and organizations related to aviation: ICAO, Airports Authority of India (AAI), airports of Brussels, Denver, Hong Kong and many others. Now, the list includes Moscow Domodedovo Airport which has been using the GIS based on the Esri ArcGIS technology for several years.
The winners are awarded during a special ceremony in the framework of the annual Esri User Conference which was held in San Diego, USA this year. The winners are awarded by the founder and President of Esri Jack Dangermond.
