Newcastle-e1474973166763The Port of Newcastle would soon be getting a second major cruise ship terminal in NSW. This terminal would be quite similar to the White Bay Terminal in Sydney.

This new terminal is quite similar to the White Bay Terminal that is located in Sydney.

And, the new cruise ship terminal would be worth $12.7 million and it would be about 3000 square meters. Once this cruise ship terminal is built, the Hunter area would be capable of winning a larger piece of the cruise ship industry, according to Premier Mike Baird who have his statement on Tuesday.

He said that this particular project would firmly secure the future of cruise industry in the region of Newcastle.

Moreover, the new facility would also provide the region to scope to compete for the ever increasing potential of the east coast tourism trade, said Mike Baird. The local tourism officials have been requesting the state government for several years to build for them a permanent cruise facility that would replace the temporary marquee.

The Queen Elizabeth cruise liner earlier was compelled to rotate about 360 degrees so as to find it easier to reverse into a berth at the port.

Rob Stokes, the planning minister said that the brand new cruise terminal would go a long way in luring an increased number of cruise ships to the annual cruise season. In addition, the new terminal could also be utilized as a home port for cruises. This implies that cruise ship travellers could commence as well as end their journeys in Newcastle.

It is expected that the construction of the terminal would be capable of generating at least $26.7 million to the regional economy.
