New direct service from Edinburgh to Ibiza to be launched by British Airways

BRITISH-AIRWAYSBritish Airways is to launch a new direct service from Edinburgh to Ibiza in summer 2014. Starting on 23 May, the new flights will operate from Edinburgh on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, giving sun seekers the option of a short break holiday or a longer stay on one of the Mediterranean’s most popular islands.

The service will run through the summer until early September. Fares start from £65 one way (hand baggage only) inclusive of all taxes and charges.

Richard Tams, British Airways’ head of UK and Ireland sales and marketing said: “Ibiza is one of the most popular destinations for Scottish holidaymakers, with tens of thousands of Scots travelling to the beautiful Balearic island every year.

“This new service will offer holidaymakers the opportunity to fly direct from Edinburgh on a scheduled British Airways service with all the advantages of flying with a full-service carrier, including free on-line check-in and seat selection 24 hours before departure and complimentary food and drink on board.

“We look forward to welcoming existing British Airways customers – and those new to the airline – on board this exciting new route.”

Gordon Dewar, chief executive, Edinburgh Airport said: “We are delighted to support British Airways with this exciting new service. “Our goal is to provide our passengers with as much choice as possible. By working closely with our partner airlines, we can achieve this. I know this service will be a success and my team and I are looking forward to continuing to work and grow with BA in the coming months and years.”

Carmen Ferrer, Tourism Councilor of the Ibiza government said: “We are very pleased that British Airways is to launch this new service. The new Edinburgh-Ibiza route will bring Scotland and Ibiza closer than ever. Scots will get the chance to discover the diversity of the island and Ibicencos will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent city of Edinburgh and its surroundings.”
