NOEL McMEEL PUTS NORTHERN IRELAND ON THE MENU IN NEW FOOD FILMTourism Ireland has launched the second in its series of new online films – created to entice “foodies” from around the globe. Starring celebrity chef Noel McMeel, the film showcases some of the wonderful food gems produced mainly in the Fermanagh area – demonstrating the passion of local farmers and artisan producers for growing, rearing and producing food of the highest standard.

Tourism Ireland is telling the story of Northern Ireland’s great, home-produced food, to capture the attention of “foodies” worldwide. The latest short video, part of the “Flavours of Ireland” series, will whet the appetites of those interested in culinary excellence while on holiday or on a short break – and persuade them to choose Northern Ireland.

The film shows the stunning, unspoiled landscape of the Fermanagh Lakelands and how it directly impacts the high quality of local food produce. Beginning with Pat O’Doherty, whose award-winning bacon comes from his own herd of saddleback pigs reared on Inish Corkish island, the film also features Kettyle beef, Tickety-moo ice-cream and Broighter Gold rapeseed oil (made in Limavady) – with Noel preparing dishes which include all of these products.

Noel’s passion for local produce is infectious as he takes the viewer on a journey around Fermanagh, giving a real insight into the characters who live and work there. He speaks about Fermanagh as a “hidden gem” and adds that “great people and great produce are what makes me tick”. Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland chief executive, said: “Northern Ireland is increasingly becoming known for its cuisine, with a reputation for high quality, natural products used in both traditional and innovative dishes. Food is such a vital component of the holiday experience nowadays, with travellers becoming more and more discerning about food, and where and what they eat. Gastronomy and the extremely high quality of our food is one of the key themes being promoted by Tourism Ireland worldwide this year.

The fact that it is possible to enjoy excellent cuisine, and enjoy our rich culture and heritage, very much appeals to our overseas visitors, so it makes sense for us to highlight Northern Ireland as a superb food tourism destination.”Colette Kelly, Tourism Ireland; Pat O’Doherty, O’Doherty’s Butchers; chef Noel McMeel; Maurice Kettyle, Kettyle Beef; and Hilary McClarence, Tourism Ireland, during filming of Tourism Ireland’s new online food film at Lough Erne Resort, Co Fermanagh.
