NYC-CompanyToday NYC & Company kicked off its four-city European media mission in Paris. With unprecedented developments in New York City’s hotels, attractions, retail, dining scene and more, the organization is presenting highlights of the “new” New York City to influential European travel audiences through September 14. In addition to deskside media appointments in Paris today,

NYC & Company President and CEO Fred Dixon and Senior Vice President, Global Communications Chris Heywood will present destination updates at press conferences in Copenhagen, Stockholm and London. Key members of the travel trade will also be in attendance in the Nordics.

“New York City is experiencing a period of momentous growth, with new hotels, attractions and other developments in evolving neighborhoods across all five boroughs,” said Dixon. “We are pleased to be in Europe during this pivotal time, as we look to achieve another record-breaking tourism year with nearly 60 million visitors.”

New York City is currently home to more than 109,000 hotel rooms, with a total of 135,000 rooms expected by the end of 2019. Notable openings include The Beekman, which debuted August 23, and Arlo Hudson Square, The William Vale and Four Seasons New York Downtown all opening this month. Later this year, visitors can look forward to the debut of Firmdale Hotels’ The Whitby.

The City’s many evolving neighborhoods continue to provide visitors with a range of diverse and authentic experiences. Highlights include the revitalization of Lower Manhattan with the new Eataly NYC Downtown and Westfield World Trade Center, adding to last year’s monumental opening of the One World Observatory. Upcoming developments in Staten Island’s St. George neighborhood include the Empire Outlets (2017) and the New York Wheel (2018), and in Manhattan’s newest neighborhood on the Far West Side, Hudson Yards will debut in 2018–19 with 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space, including the City’s first Neiman Marcus department store, a 150-room Equinox hotel, a new observation deck and restaurants curated by renowned chefs Thomas Keller, Jose Andres and Costas Spiliadis.

Infrastructure and technology improvements make exploring the City even easier, with the recently-opened World Trade Center Transportation Hub, the Second Avenue Subway (first phase debuting later this year), expanded Citywide Ferry Service (2017-2018) and an entirely-reimagined LaGuardia Airport (2022). This summer, more than 500 state-of-the-art LinkNYC kiosks were installed throughout the five boroughs, offering free Wi-Fi, device charging, touch-screen directions and more. A further 7,000 kiosks are expected to come online over the next several years.

New York City welcomed 58.3 million visitors in 2015, the City’s sixth consecutive year for record-breaking tourism, with 46 million domestic and 12.3 million international visitors. Growth is expected to continue, with an expected 59.7 million visitors in 2016, including 12.7 million international visitors.

In 2015 New York City welcomed a combined 2.25 million visitors from these four European markets, including 716,000 French visitors, 121,000 Danish visitors, 212,000 Swedish visitors and 1,175,000 visitors from the United Kingdom. More than 2.3 million visitors are expected from these markets by the end of 2016
