Tourism New Zealand, Business Events Wellington and Positively Wellington Venues hosted a group of 30 VIPs on a private tour of Show Me Wellington last week to experience all that Wellington has to offer as an event destination.

The VIP group included Association Chief Executives, University Heads of School and key people in the Geoscience sector – all with an interest in hosting international conferences in Wellington.

Tourism New Zealand’s International Business Events Manager Bjoern Spreitzer says, “The aim is to showcase the support and facilities that the capital offers with the objective of encouraging them to bid to host more international conferences in the city.”
Show Me Wellington is an annual conference and events expo aimed at showcasing Wellingtons unique business events offerings.

The group were introduced to key exhibitors at the event and then hosted at a networking function where they could talk one-on-one with members of the Tourism New Zealand Business Events team.”Identifying key industry who can successfully bid for international conferences is a key part of the work we are undertaking in the sector. And this work is already demonstrating results,” says Bjoern.

In the last financial year Tourism New Zealand has assisted with over 39 conference bids through its management of the Conference Assistance Programme. Seven of these events have been secured worth an estimated $13.6 million to the New Zealand economy.
