Ireland has been confirmed as the venue for the prestigious Travel Classics International writers’ conference in 2017. The announcement was made at this year’s conference, which took place recently in Bern and Lucerne in Switzerland.

Regarded by many as the world’s foremost networking event for travel writers and editors, it’s a major coup for Irish tourism that the 2017 conference will take place here. It brings together celebrated editors from a wide range of high profile publications – including titles like Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler and Harper’s Bazaar – all of which reach hundreds of thousands of readers across North America, as well as globally.

The 2017 conference will take place in Ireland’s Ancient East over four days, during which numerous American freelance travel writers will have the opportunity to hold individual meetings with assigning editors from the top travel, epicurean and lifestyle publications in the US.

The announcement has been welcomed by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: “We are delighted that the Travel Classics International conference will return to Ireland in 2017. With some of the most influential and prominent American travel and lifestyle journalists likely to attend, it will be a superb opportunity to show them at first-hand what makes Ireland unique. It will bring huge exposure of what Ireland has to offer American holidaymakers, through the media in this important tourism market.”

Fáilte Ireland will put in place the arrangements for the pre- and post-conference trips, giving the delegates a fantastic opportunity to collect many interesting stories – inspiring numerous new works and articles and leading to huge exposure in the top-tier travel and lifestyle publications around the US.

Ciara Sugrue, Head of International Publicity in Fáilte Ireland, welcomed the event and said the organisation was looking forward to hosting so many top level writers: “Ireland, with its friendly people and stunning landscapes, will provide fantastic copy for the travelling scribes. Indeed, with so much on offer in Dublin, Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way, the story almost writes itself. This visit, involving so many influential US publications, is a great opportunity for us to influence what potential American visitors will be reading in the months to come.”

The Travel Classics International writers’ conference has taken place around the island of Ireland previously – at Ballymaloe House in Co Cork (2013), Conrad Dublin (2011), Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast (2009), g Hotel in Galway (2007) and the Park Hotel Kenmare (2005).
