The Indian Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture & Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has said that the development and promotion of various tourism destinations & products is primarily the responsibility of the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration.
The Ministry of Tourism, however, provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to various State Governments & UT Administrations for tourism projects prioritized in consultation with them for each financial year, subject to availability of funds, inter-se-priority and adherence to scheme guidelines.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Naik said, the Indian Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has neither sanctioned any project for the construction of a Helipad at Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, nor has any project been prioritised for grant of CFA during the current financial year for this purpose.
He said, during the year 2008-09, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had sanctioned CFA of Rs.427.03 lakh with the release of Rs.341.62 lakh for the project ‘Development of Kodaikanal-Phase II’ under the ‘Product/Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits’ Scheme.
