There are a lot of beaches in Shimane facing the sea of Japan. The ideal time to visit these beaches is during this time from July to August end. As you drive along the Route 9, which runs along the coast line, you can find many beaches in addition to the major beaches listed below.
Sasago Beach: This beach is located in Sasago, Mihonoseki, and Matsue. Reaching this beach is easy, from JR Matsue Sta, take Ichibata Bus bound for Mihonoseki Bus Terminal (45 mins), then change the bus and take Mihonoseki community bus to “Sasago” Bus Stop (15 mins).
Sugaura Beach: from JR Matsue Sta, take Ichibata Bus bound for “Mihonoseki” Bus Terminal (45 mins), then change the bus and take Mihonoseki community bus to “Sugeura” Bus Stop (8mins).
Kitaura Beach is located in Kitaura, Mihonoseki, and Matsue. You can reach the beach from JR Matsue Sta, take Ichibata Bus bound for “Mihonoseki” Bus Terminal (45 mins), then change the bus and take Mihonoseki community bus to “Sugeura” Bus Stop (8mins).
Konami Beach is located in Konami, Shimane-cho, and Matsue. From JR Matsue Station, take Ichibata Bus bound for ‘ Marine Gate Shimane’ to ‘Marine Gate Shimane’ Bus Stop, then change the bus and take Mihonoseki Community Bus to”’Konami’ Bus Stop (15mins).
Kirara Beach: is located at 135-1 Taki, Taki-cho, Izumo. The beach is a 10 minutes’ walk from JR Oda Station.
Kotogahama Beach is located at Hongo, Maji, Nima-cho, Oda. It is a 3 minutes’ walk from JR Maji Station.
Iwami Seaside Park Beach is located at Kokubun-cho, Hamada. You can reach the place from JR Hamada Sta, take Iwami Kotsu Bus bound for ‘Gotsu’ to ‘Kokubun-ji Temple’ Bus Stop, then 10 minutes walk.
Rainbow beach, Mimiura Beach and Akiya Beach have opened since 20th July – 20th August [ 8:00 – 17:30 ] So visit early to experience this beach magic. The beaches are located at Beppu, Nishinoshima-cho, and Oki-gun and are 40 min drive from Beppu Port.
Watazu Beach is located at Shimazushima, Chibu-mura, and Oki-gun. It is a 20 min drive from Kurusu Port
Sotohama Beach is located at 3430 Mita, Nishinoshima-cho, Oki-gun. It is a 10 min drive from Beppu Port.
Kasuganohama Beach has opened since 18th July – 21st August [ 9:00 – 17:00 ]. It is located at Fuse, Okinoshima-cho, and Oki-gun and is a 40 min drive from Saigo Port.
Nakamura Beach has opened to visitors from 18th July – 20th August [9:00 – 16:30]. It is located at Nakamura, Okinoshima-cho, and Oki-gun and is a 30 min drive from Saigo Port.
Fukuura Beach will remain open till 16th August [9:00 – 16:00]. It is located at Minamikata, Okinoshima-cho, and Oki-gun and is 40 min drive from Saigo Port.
