akron-canton-airport-logoSouthwest Airlines began new nonstop service to Tampa, Florida yesterday from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK).

The 7:30 a.m. departure was aboard a comfy Southwest Boeing 737.

Tampa is the latest AirTran destination to convert to Southwest at CAK, as part of the integration of the two carriers. Orlando, New York (LGA), Boston, and Atlanta converted to the canyon blue earlier this year.

“Tampa is a great city for both business and leisure travelers,” said airport President and CEO, Rick McQueen. “Now travelers have the opportunity to fly south on bigger, roomier jets for a great low fare aboard Southwest Airlines.

Plus, you can check two bags for free aboard Southwest. You just can’t beat that.”

To ring in the arrival of the new service, CAK delighted Customers with tropical flavored candy and a gate party.

Southwest Airlines is also serving up hot deals to the Sunshine State starting at only $109 one-way to TPA until August 14, 2014 – restrictions and exclusions apply.
