Tan Son Nhat international airport welcomed its 20 millionth passenger, named Dang Vinh Ha, on Vietnam Airlines flight VN231.
The flight, which departed from Hanoi, landed at Tan Son Nhat airport at 10.30 am.
A representative from Tan Son Nhat said that the airport is undertaking a project expanding its terminals to raise its handling capacity to 25 million passengers and 600,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
Tan Son Nhat airport has the highest flight density in Vietnam, with annual average growth of 15 percent in recent years. In 2013, the total number of passengers through the airport reached over 20 million, accounting for 45 percent of the national total.
Currently, 44 airlines are operating regular foreign and domestic flights from and to Ho Chi Minh city through the airport.
In 2013, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines alone carried about 9.4 million passengers from and to Tan Son Nhat airport, making up 46 percent of the total through the airport.
